Every year, the Friends of Kingsmead Field holds several community events, some of which help us to raise funds for future enhancements for the field. We welcome allcomers to our events, whether you are a regular field user or a first time visitor.

Ongoing activities

All our activities are advertised on our Facebook site.

Our big themes in 2019 were organising community litter picking in the Kingsmead area, taking part in Kew Gardens’ Grow Wild initiative and supporting Canterbury In Bloom’s Lost Words project for children and their families. The highlight of the year was the voluntary designation of Kingsmead Field as a Village Green by Canterbury City Council.  Updates on all of these activities were posted on our Facebook group.

Enhancements: The last few years have seen a lot of enhancements to the field as the Friends and Canterbury City Council have worked together to install new features based on the earlier public consultation. These enhancements have included new paths, picnic benches, a playground for young children and a table tennis table. In 2019, interpretation boards were installed by the river.  Further updates can be found on our Facebook group.

Litter picking As part of the district-wide litter campaign, the Friends of Kingsmead Field have played a key role in organising community litterpicks to clean up the River Stour and the Kingsmead area. The volunteers have collected over 250 sacks of litter, numerous supermarket trolleys, bikes and scooters as well as a traffic cones, fishing rods and barbecues. We’re grateful to everyone who has volunteered for their help in cleaning up our local area.

Lend us your ideas! We welcome your feedback on our activities and your ideas for the future. We cannot promise to carry them out as there are many variables we must take into consideration when we plan a public activity, but we are very happy to receive suggestions. You are welcome to contact us directly at kingsmeadfield@gmail.com or use the form on the Contact us page.
